Today climbing exists in a multitude of incarnations. Most climbers are introduced to the sport through climbing gyms. A portion of climbers continue on to sport climb outdoors, and fewer still make their way to traditional climbing. Seneca is one choice among a great many climbing destinations, and climbers who choose it do so for the exposed climbing, adventurous nature of the rock and strong traditional climbing culture.
That said, the modern era has made its mark on today’s Seneca climber. Most climbers are content to pick off lines from the guidebook and climb on a handful of well-worn routes. The exception is a small group of guides who spend their weekends introducing new climbers to the classic routes of Seneca and exploring the lesser known surrounding cliff lines during the week.
